Missouri men’s cross-country took sixth place overall at the Southeastern Conference Championships on Friday in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It is the same ranking the team held in last year’s SEC Championships.
The men’s team finished four points behind fifth-place Alabama and a few points behind fourth-place Georgia. Arkansas swept the competition, taking first overall.
Senior Drew White led the Mizzou men, finishing 14th individually with a time of 24:28.6. White usually finished first for Mizzou in his races this season, and his ranking in the championships earned him all-SEC Second Team honors.
“Drew White got some validation for all of his efforts today by earning All-SEC honors,” coach Marc Burns said in a press release. “He has worked hard and continued to believe in himself throughout his time here and was rewarded today.”
Senior Ollie Lockley was the second Tiger to cross the finish line, placing 23rd individually with a time of 24:59.3.
This was the first SEC championship meet for redshirt sophomore Zach Cook and redshirt freshman Michael Widmann, who finished fifth and sixth for Mizzou, respectively. Both barely broke into the top 50 runners in the SEC, impressive for a debut, with Cook at 43rd place and Widmann at 46th. Widmann earned All-SEC Freshman Team honors as the fifth-highest freshman in the conference.
“It was nice to see Zach Cook step up and score for us,” Burns said in a press release. “He and Michael Widmann ran their best races of the year. The future looks bright with Michael earning All-Freshman honors.”
The postseason will continue at the NCAA Midwest Regionals on Nov. 11 in Iowa City, Iowa.
