Looking to bounce back after an upset at home on Monday, the Mizzou men’s basketball team came back during Saturday’s matchup against the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers, winning the game 59–56. Freshman guard Frankie Hughes scored 18 points on the day and was 3-for-10 on three-pointers.
The Tigers held a narrow 33-30 lead over the Hilltoppers at the half. The Tigers shot a mere 29 percent from the floor and closed the half out on a 7-0 run.
Kevin Puryear would prove to be instrumental in the second half, scoring eight points to help Missouri extend their lead out to 10 points just around the 12 minute mark. However, the Hilltoppers would storm back to make it a one-possession game with just seconds left. Pancake Thomas for the Hilltoppers missed a game-tying three pointer with four seconds left on the clock, leaving Missouri to win the game on Dec. 3.
Up next for the Tigers is a home game this Tuesday against Miami-Ohio. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
