Bastille performs at Peabody Opera House in St. Louis next week for a Friday show to remember.
####The lowdown
Bastille is stopping in St. Louis on Dec. 16 for its last American show this year before heading back overseas to Luxembourg to start their Wild, Wild World Tour. The show, hosted by 105.7 The Point, is part of a holiday concert series called Ho Ho Show.
The show is at 7:30 p.m., and tickets range from $43-144. The show, while energetic, will be good from any seat in the venue.
The city offers both street parking directly on Market Street and lot parking nearby, but I would suggest getting there early enough that you find a spot pretty close to the venue. If you’re an out-of-towner, keep an eye out for the Gateway Arch while you’re downtown — it should be visible from the venue.
####The artists
Bastille, brought together by singer Dan Smith in 2011, quickly rose to fame when its first single, “Flaws,” was released. The band hadn’t even decided what path it wanted to take when it signed to a label and started planning its first tour.
The tour was riddled with sold-out shows, and the band moved higher on the charts in the United Kingdom and America. Now, Bastille performs internationally and plays at festivals like Coachella. Bastille’s most recent album, _Wild World_ came out in August 2016 and hit fourth on the Billboard 200 later in the year.
####Noteworthy Bastille tunes
**“Blame”**
This indie-rock song mixes the guitar and drums in a fashion typically of the genre and is mixed with vocals that make an impact. My favorite part of this song is, “sing, you’ve got the power to control. Don’t pin it all on me.”
**“Good Grief”**
Any song that starts with a voiceover of “What would you little maniacs like to do first?” is destined for greatness. The song is upbeat and fun, but according to New Music Express (NME), the band said the song is supposed to represent the differing parts of grief: good and bad.
**“Fake It”**
This is a love-gone-wrong ballad describing how even though it wasn’t perfect, it will be missed. Smith is very passionate about this song and the emotion is sure to bring tears during the live show.
**“Bad Blood”**
Going to a Bastille concert and not listening to “Bad Blood” first would be a great disservice to the band. This song, frequently played on the alternative station in my hometown, is from its debut studio album and is the perfect alternative rock song.
**“Flaws”**
This is the first Bastille song I ever heard, and the first song they debuted. It’s the right amount of fun and heartfelt wrapped up in an indie-pop ribbon.
