Coming off its worst finish of the season, Missouri men’s golf rebounded with a solid performance at the Auburn Tiger Invitational in Opelika, Alabama. The Tigers moved up two spots on the final day to finish sixth out of 17 teams.
After a rain delay pushed back the tee time for the final round, some of the Tigers finished the weekend off strong with a good day while others struggled and dropped down the leaderboard.
Senior Luigi Botta led the Tigers, finishing tied for 19th despite dropping 10 spots on the final day. Botta posted a career-best 66 in the second round. His 66 also tied for the second-best round of the entire event.
Junior Matt Echelmeier was the second-highest Tiger after rising up 17 spots on the final day to finish tied for 23rd. Rory Franssen, a sophomore, came in one stroke behind Echelmeier and finished tied for 27th after climbing 13 spots in the final round.
Senior Hayden Buckley was ranked ninth in the national poll on golfstat.com after his win at the SunTrust Gator Invitational but failed to replicate his previous successes and finished tied for 48th after dropping 16 spots in the final round.
Senior Trevor Ullestad finished tied for 70th after moving up 13 spots in the final round. Freshman Jack Parker, who competed as an individual, rounded out the Tigers with a 91st place finish. Parker dropped 29 spots after shooting an 86 on the final day, a score that tied for the second worst during the event.
The team will compete March 16 at the GCU Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona.
