When the heat has you feeling sluggish and your morale starts to wear away, remember the advantages of summer classes. From getting ahead in school to earning in-state tuition, summer at MU can be a lot fun and hard work. Here are some tips to stay energized and organized during the summer session.
###Keep up with your work###
You will have more time to do nothing during summer session than during the regular semester, so don’t let yourself fall behind on schoolwork. Keep a planner; make it colorful and eye-popping so you won’t forget your important dates. And make sure to set deadlines before the actual assignment is due.
###Go to bed at a reasonable hour###
This may sound ridiculous, but your body needs consistent rest and a good night’s sleep to keep you at your best health. You may not have class until the afternoon every day, but that isn’t an excuse to stay up until 2 a.m.
###Find a balance###
You will most likely be working, going to class and having a social life. So make sure you find the right balance to keep yourself in check. Summer session may seem more relaxed than a regular semester, but don’t let the fun overcome your priorities. You don’t have to go out every night. Also, study outside so you can work on your tan and your papers.
###Take advantage of smaller class sizes###
You won’t be competing with a hundred other hands, so ask questions and be active in your classes. Form tighter connections with your professors, TAs and other faculty members. You will have more one-on-one time with your peers and professors, so don’t put it to waste.
###Don’t allow yourself to be bored###
If you find yourself with too much free time even with school and work, take up a hobby. There are so many hobbies that can be self-taught like sewing, yoga, vlogging, cooking, hiking and other activities.
###Make a daily routine###
Try to eat three proper meals a day. Make a workout plan and job schedule to fit into your academic plans. If you are constantly moving between your job and school, you may forget to eat, but your body and mind need essential nutrients to succeed.
