Missouri women’s golf and tennis both competed in tournaments down south last weekend. Tennis traveled to Fort Worth, Texas, for the Big 5 Challenge at Texas Christian University while golf went to Nashville, Tennessee, for the Mason Rudolph Championship hosted by Vanderbilt.

Freshman Lisa Fukutoku headlined the Big 5 Challenge for the tennis team, winning the singles flight title after going 3-0 in her singles matches. Fukutoku is now 5-0 in singles matches across multiple tournaments this fall. She has also not seen a three-set match yet this season.

The team found success at the challenge, winning five of its six singles matches on Saturday and going 14-9 overall for the weekend.

“This weekend was a great opportunity for us to get out and compete against some of the top teams in college tennis,” coach Colt Gaston said in a press release. “I thought the team did a great job of raising their bar every match and overall competed at a high level. These tournaments are about getting better and building toward our overall goal, and I saw us really make some strides this weekend.”

In Music City, the women’s golf team had its weekend cut short with the cancelation of Sunday’s final round due to rain.

The Tigers were halfway through the round when it got cancelled, causing their team score to revert back to the end of the second round in an unfortunate twist. At the time of the cancelation, the team had moved up to eighth place from 13th.

Missouri finished with a 597 score, 21-over-par. The Tigers’ highest finisher was sophomore Jessica Yuen, who tied for ninth overall with a 142, two-under-par. Yuen shot 71 both of her rounds.

Missouri tennis will travel to Malibu, California next weekend for the Riviera/ITA All American Championships on Monday, Oct. 1. Women’s golf will host The Johnie Imes at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia from Oct. 1-3.
