Missouri Track and Field returned to its home turf to compete at the Mizzou Open on Friday, Jan. 25 at the Hearnes Center. The Tigers represented by earning 13 first-place finishes, including a first place in every field event entered.
Among the first place finishes was redshirt junior Jordan McClendon, who set a new personal record with a mark of 21.74m in the women’s weight throw. Her performance moved her up to No. 4 in the nation’s leaderboard. McClendon is now only 1.1m away from Kearsten Peoples’ 2015 school record throw.
Representing Missouri in the triple jump, freshmen Georgi Nachev and Arianna Fisher both won their divisions. Nachev achieved a 14.85m jump and Fisher’s jump was 12.44m.
Also among the field event first place finishes were senior Valeria Kostiuk in the high jump, redshirt senior Will Fife and junior Emily Stauffer in the shot put, and Redshirt Junior Patrick Kunza in the weight throw.
Other successes include junior Ja’Mari Ward and senior Maya Cody earning first in the men’s and women’s 60-meter dash. Ward set a new personal record of 6.87 and Cody had a time of 7.56. Cody was also awarded first in the 200-meter dash along with sophomore Jayson Ashford.
The recognition didn’t stop there as freshman Morgan O’Neal placed first in the women’s 400-meter at 59.07. Redshirt sophomore Justin Loquercio competed in the men’s 300-meter and also earned first and a new personal record of 8:43.72.
After celebrating many successes on Friday, MU will prepare to travel to Lincoln, Nebraska for The Husker Invitational on Feb. 1 to Feb. 2.
