No. 15 Missouri (5-9, 1-5 SEC) competed against No. 5 LSU twice this weekend. Following the Mardi Gras Invitational in St. Charles, Missouri on Friday, MU headed to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to face off against LSU in a dual meet on Sunday.

The Tigers of Baton Rouge defeated the Missouri Tigers in all four events and claimed all four individual event winners. LSU finished the meet with 197.650, while Missouri scored 195.475.

Missouri started off the meet on bars with a 48.900. Senior Madeleine Huber led MU with a 9.875. Redshirt senior Becca Schugel and redshirt junior Morgan Porter both scored 9.825. Sophomore Chelsey Christensen had a 9.75. Junior Aspen Tucker and freshman Frances Bidwill each had 9.65s.

In the second rotation, Missouri scored a 48.450 on vault. Tucker notched a 9.8 and Porter earned a 9.775. Christensen and Bidwill both had 9.75s. Sophomore Gabrielle Gottula had a 9.375.

Missouri finally broke 49 in the third rotation, scoring a 49.225 on floor and increasing the Tigers’ 49 or higher streak to nine meets. Porter scored a 9.875, tying her season-high. Senior Michaelee Turner tied her season-high with 9.85. Gottula also scored a 9.85, setting a new career-high. Tucker and junior Mary Nicholson each earned 9.825s.

Missouri finished the meet with a 48.900 on beam. Senior Britney Ward returned after missing the last two meets, scoring a 9.875. Nicholson and sophomore Lauren Clevenger earned a 9.85 and 9.775, respectively. Senior Allison Bower had a 9.75, while Gottula had a 9.65.

“We’re not being very aggressive on the first event out,” coach Shannon Welker said in a press release. “We need to be more aggressive and set the tone. Overall I thought floor was pretty solid, but we weren’t as sharp as I’d like to be on bars and beam, and we can’t count a fall. We have a bye week, so we’ll regroup and be better when we come out the next time.”

Missouri will head back to Columbia to take on No. 13 Kentucky on March 1 at 5 p.m. at Hearnes Center.
