Nonprofit organization Relevant Youth hosted a free concert at Cafe Berlin with performances by Capitol Jay, namesake, Jay Wood and Post Sex Nachos. Sound by RY, the music marketing team on Relevant Youth, put together this show to bring the Columbia community together in a night of mingling and dancing. Music marketing director Kaitlyn Weir believes the night was a successful event.

“I wanted to do something to celebrate our client, but at the same time I wanted to bring together the Columbia community in a way that was really special,” Weir said. “We have a bunch of awesome local artists here to play and celebrate together.”

People crowded Cafe Berlin with festivities and excitement. Many people enjoyed their night and loved listening to the artists. Columbia resident Genna Boland loved seeing the venue so crowded with many different kinds of people.

“Usually, the crowd is kind of small, but there’s a lot of people here that I’ve never seen before,” Boland said. “I’m glad to see a lot of diversity.”

The atmosphere presented at the concert put a lot of people in a good mood. The exciting vibes of the venue surrounded the audience and helped hype them up. Columbia resident Amelia Hewins loved the environment of the venue and believed it added to her experience at the concert.

“This is a really cool place because it’s different from being at the bars and stuff,” Hewins said. “It’s just very chill, fun, free-spirited. No one really cares what you look like, who you are, you’re just here to have a good time.”

Relevant Youth is a nonprofit creative agency that is trying to disrupt the traditional educational model with hands-on access for students they typically wouldn’t find in classrooms. The students at Relevant Youth have many visions they wish to accomplish in the time they have with the organization. They wish to help other students with their creative visions, along with other local businesses and musical artists. Weir hopes to continue with these kinds of events in the future.

“I think the vision I came up with when I was applying for this position was really brought to life here,” Weir said. “We did a really good job sticking to the narrative we were trying to drive and I’m excited to see what happens.”
