Senior Logan Warnecke died after being hit by a vehicle on Dec. 6 at 6:54 p.m., according to a Columbia Police Department press release.

Warnecke was jogging or running across College Avenue west to east when he was struck by 21-year-old Kathrine Madigan’s 2016 Honda CR-V. Upon being hit, Warnecke was transported to the University Hospital. There, he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

Madigan was not injured, and police do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash. The Columbia Police Department is still investigating the incident.

Lt. Brian Tate, who was at the scene, warned of increased traffic hazards with the semester wrapping up at all three local colleges: MU, Stephens College and Columbia College.

“More activities are going on, especially in the downtown area,” Tate told KOMU. “With graduation and finals, we just ask that people be more cognizant of their surroundings and looking for pedestrians.”

A St. Louis native and 2016 graduate of St. John Vianney High School, Warnecke was majoring in business and a member of Phi Kappa Theta fraternity. According to his Linkedin profile, he worked as an intramural basketball referee for MizzouRec, delivery agent for Postmates and on-site cleaning specialist for HealthCare Infection Control Solutions. Additionally, he served as the co-owner of Legrandscaping Lawn Service.

Friends and family members of Warnecke took to social media to respond in solidarity and reflect on his legacy.

As of Dec. 7, MU has not released an email to inform students of Warnecke’s passing and the crash.
