Only two players scored double digits for Missouri on Sunday afternoon. One of them set a career-high in scoring as well.

Junior Mark Smith scored 23 points in Missouri’s (6-4) 64-48 win over Southern Illinois (4-7), hitting seven shots from behind the arc. Sophomore Javon Pickett added 13 points and five rebounds.

The Tigers faced off against a familiar face across the court, their former teammate Ronnie Suggs Jr. He transferred in the offseason after he received a scholarship midseason last year. Suggs started for the Salukis, but he scored only four points on free throws.

While Missouri led for the entirety of the second half, it was held scoreless in the final two minutes as SIU went on a 9-0 run to end the game.

Missouri had its second-best 3-point shooting game of the year, hitting 34.8% from range. The only players to hit shots from behind the line were Smith and sophomore Xavier Pinson, who hit one early in the second half as just one of two baskets he’d score. Torrence Watson missed six triples, and neither Pickett nor Dru Smith even attempted a 3-pointer.

Junior Jeremiah Tilmon had a quiet scoring game, sinking just one basket, but also managed to stay out of serious foul trouble. He’s been a surprising producer for the Tigers this season, reaching double digits in five of Missouri’s 10 games.

Missouri heads to St. Louis on Saturday for the annual Braggin’ Rights game against Illinois at Enterprise Center. The Illini beat No. 5 Michigan 71-62 on Wednesday.
