Lana Del Rey released a second single for her upcoming album, “Chemtrails Over the Country Club”, to be released March 19. “Chemtrails Over the Country Club” follows the 2019 Album “Norman F****** Rockwell.” Del Rey also released “Let Me Love You Like a Woman” back in October and performed it on “The Tonight Show.”

Del Rey shared a black and white photograph, surrounded by women and children; wearing vintage clothing, sitting around a picnic table, via Instagram. As a fan, I was shocked to see her share her album cover so early, Del Rey rarely shares details about the album until a few weeks prior to the release date. The song “Chemtrails Over the Country Club” is not an intense song – the piano plays quietly behind Del Rey’s vocals. The violins, drums and sounds of bells make Del Rey’s signature dreamy music come alive once again.

My favorite line has to be the opening because she always writes and sings in a sweet tone. Just hearing her sing those words reminds fans like me – how beautifully she sings. “I’m on the run with you, my sweet love,” Del Rey sings. The beginning line sets a poignant, nominal mood. Del Rey has always glamorized the vintage lifestyle; consequently, she sings, “Under the chemtrails over the country club, wearin’ our jewels in the swimming pool.” Comparably, this brings back memories of her “Blue Jeans” music video which she sings, under a swimming pool. “Blue Jeans” and “Chemtrails Over the Country Club” have similar sceneries, but Del Rey sings “Chemtrails” – with a contemplative tone.

Del Rey continues to sing about jewelry, sports cars, horoscopes and of course chemtrails over the country club. In her music video, she is seen laughing and having a good time with her siblings, girlfriends and various children. In a way, I am jealous of her having such a great time. I miss being surrounded by family and friends who I have not seen in a while.

The song changes into a dark, electrifying mood when the guitar strings begin to almost consume the song. The music video embellishes an eerie feel where Del Rey is seen through a black and white filter, a tornado in the back and wolves howling.

It brings out a sense of reality. Not everything will be classical and dreamy. She is seen under a blue light, showering and wiping blood off her face.

She sings, “It’s never too late baby, so don’t give up, Under the chemtrails over the country club (You’re born in December, I’m born in June).” The song ends with a steady drumbeat and her outro, “My Cancer is Sun, my Leo is moon.” Del Rey has always shared her interests in astrology with fans, so her outro ending this way could be seen as a reminder.

It is a dreamy song to wind down to or reminisce about a beautiful life. I personally related to her glamorizing her simple life. Entering my twenties, I have concluded to make myself a priority. Del Rey has always been vocal about being her own person. “Chemtrails” is a reminder to me to live each day without thinking about what others think.
