Copy Editor 

Copy editors are expected to monitor style (consistency of certain terms, punctuation, rules around subjects), accuracy, accessibility, etc., during the 2nd reads they provide to articles.

Data & Investigation

The D&I work involves research into primary and secondary sources, conducting comprehensive and thoughtful interviews, and writing long-form articles.  As a result, they publish less frequently than the standard news section and have a team of reporters working on a single investigation.

Digital Production

The Digital Production Team is responsible for the general upkeep of our website and improving The Maneater’s digital presence. Digital Producers post stories, work on article and page designs, work with code and all things web-based.

Graphics

The Graphics staff produces supplemental visuals for web, social media and print. Graphic Designers will have the opportunity to work closely with other sections across The Maneater while working on their supplemental pieces.

MOVE

The MOVE section writes features, profiles and reviews centered around arts & culture on campus and in Columbia. In the spring semester, Maneater staffers will have the opportunity to work on the annual MOVE Magazine, which will be a print and digital publication.

News

The News section writes articles that pertain to all aspects of MU and Columbia in a timely and accurate manner.

Opinions

In the Opinions section, staffers write columns based off their own opinions and perspectives on topics that are of interest to them.

Photo

The Photo section is responsible for providing supplemental photos for other sections’ and for creating unique photo stories. Camera equipment is available to use through The Maneater.

Social Media

Social Creators help run The Maneater’s social media accounts. They are tasked with creating and publishing posts, working closely with other sections on collaborative projects and for helping grow The Maneaters social media presence.  The Maneater currently has an active Instagram, X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok.

Sports

Sports staffers will be expected to write game recaps, takeaways and features centered around their given beat. There will also potentially be opportunities for staffers to travel to sporting events throughout the year.

Video

Videographers will be expected to produce broadcast packages, social media content and supplemental content for other sections. Camera and audio equipment is available to use through The Maneater.
