The Maneater Editorial Board unequivocally condemns all racism, bigotry and hate.
As an amplifier of the student voice and source of campus news, it is objectively necessary to express our organization’s stance on acts of hate speech, racism and incitement of violence. There is no place for such harmful behavior in the MU community, or in our newsroom.
Recent reports of racist social media posts from Meg Miller, former president of the MU chapter of Turning Point USA, follow increasingly brazen public displays of white-supremacist propaganda and hate speech on the MU campus.
Our organization acknowledges our failures in the past to adequately amplify the voices of students of color. Our editorial board and staff are committed to taking actionable steps toward fair and equitable coverage, as well as condemnation of previous acts of racism on campus.
Our newsroom will continue to cover these events as they unfold, platforming student voices, especially those of the students of color whose safety and well-being are directly affected by these acts.
