On Saturday, Sept. 17, Missouri’s men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete in their first away meet of the season.

Following a third place finish for both the men’s and women’s programs in their home opener on Sept. 1, Missouri will prepare to participate in the John McNichols Invitational, hosted by Indiana State University.

The John McNichols Invitational has been around since 2017, but this will be the first time the Tigers will attend the event since its inception. The men’s team will be participating in an 8K race while the women’s team will participate in a 5K race.

Senior Marquette Hanson finished as Missouri’s top men’s runner at the home opener with a time of 18:41.0, placing 15th overall in the men’s 6K. Sophomore Isabelle Christiansen finished as Missouri’s top women’s runner last meet with a final time of 18:14.5, good for an 11th place finish in the women’s 5K home opener.

Trevor Peimann posted the fastest Missouri men’s freshman result of the preceding meet with a time of 18:56.7; only six places behind Hanson, the top Missouri men’s finisher. Georgie Purcell was the fastest Missouri women’s runner, finishing 30th in her race with a time of 18:59.

This meet will be Coach Lindsey Anderson’s first away meet with the team. Missouri may look to improve off their first meet with stronger elements of pack running. There were large spaces from one placement to the next, which may spread their results.

Following the John McNichols Invitational, the Missouri cross country team will journey back home to Columbia for the Gans Creek Classic Sept. 17.
