Missouri’s field team impresses as we inch closer to the end of the outdoor season.

Missouri track and field looked to improve their unranked status with an impressive showing this past weekend. Both the men’s and women’s teams were unranked in the NCAA DI Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index released Tuesday, April 9.

The team looked to gain some momentum before the postseason. The Tigers split into two groups in California in the Bryan Clay and Long Beach Invitationals April 11-13.

Only track runners were sent to the three-day long Bryan Clay Invitational and none of them ran on day one. On day two, the Tigers were ready and it showed. Perhaps the biggest standout of the whole event for the Tigers was graduate student Jenna Schwartz who ran and placed No. 5 in the 4th women’s 5,000m heat with a personal best time of 16:21.09. This time placed 9th on Missouri’s Outdoor All-Time Top 10 List.

Another notable performance came from freshman Emanuele Bellanova with incredible effort in the men’s decathlon. Bellanova competed in the 100m, long jump, shot put, high jump, 110m hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw and 1500m. In Long Beach, the Tigers competed alongside 235 other teams in the 28th Beach Invitational. They found limited success on day one with just two top-10 performances, both in women’s javelin. Graduate Erin Zimmerman placed No. 8 with a throw of 50.49 meters and graduate student Skylar Ciccolini placed No.10 with a throw of 48.26 meters.

The women’s field team continued to shine on day two with five finishers inside the top 10.

Junior Euphenie Andre achieved a distance of 12.94 meters in the triple jump to claim the top spot on the podium. Junior Claudina Diaz placed No. 3 in the high jump with a distance of 1.76 meters. Diaz ranks third on Missouri’s all time top 10 outdoor high jumpers.

Graduate Emily Offenhesier placed no. 6 in women’s shot put with a distance of 15.50 meters. Junior Ames Burton finished no. 7 in the women’s discus with a distance of 53.11 meters. From the jumps team, sophomore Isabella Sokolova finished No. 7 in the women’s long jump with a mark of 6.09 meters.

On the men’s side, there were four top-10 performances in the discus — graduate student Mitch Weber led the way with a second-place finish of 60.58 meters.

Junior Skylar Coffey finished sixth while achieving a personal best of 58.24 meters. Junior Tarique George set a personal best of 56.84 meters to finish the competition in eighth. Both of these distances placed Coffey and George on Missouri’s Outdoor All-Time Top 10 List.

Junior Rece Rowan rounded out the list in ninth place after a discus distance of 56.56 meters.

In running events, Missouri had just one top-10 finisher. Junior Steven Marks placed No. 9 in the men’s 200 meter dash with a time of 21.23 seconds. Marks also found success in the 100 meter dash with a personal best of 10.39 seconds. This milestone landed him ninth on Missouri’s all-time list in the event.

The Tigers will have one final meet this season before the SEC Championships. They will cap off the regular season from April 26-27 at the Ward Haylett Invitational in Manhattan, Kansas.
