Being dragged to a terrifying movie by your friends is arguably one of the worst experiences many non-horror fans can attest to. And hey — it’s completely natural to not want to see something that will make you afraid to go into your own house, or leave you permanently stuck in the fetal position, crying.
But if, as a moviegoer, you do find yourself in this situation, you should hope with everything you have that your friends at least choose to drag you to director James Wan’s newest film, “The Conjuring.”
The film is based on the true story of the Perron family, who has recently moved into a remote farmhouse, which contains within its walls more than it seems at first. The family begins experiencing weird phenomena, to the point of becoming terrified beyond belief for their own safety. The Perrons then take matters into their own hands, and contact Ed Warren (Patrick Wilson) and his wife Lorraine (Vera Farmiga) — debatably the most famous demonologists who ever lived.
The terrifying tale takes unexpected twists without being cheesy or overdone, and truly captures the battle between a family and the demons they share residence with. Unlike other horror films, “The Conjuring” isn’t just an attempt to make the audience jump, or a film with a few scenes thrown in with hopes of making even the toughest man flinch. The film truly is just a down-to-earth story-telling of the most terrifying situation that could possibly be imagined.
The acting is amazing and completely believable, to the point where it feels like the audience is truly reliving the Perron family’s experience.
If your friends are going to drag you to a movie that will shake you up and make you second-guess your own safety, just pray they choose “The Conjuring.”
