As rain fell in Mobile, Alabama, the start of No. 20 Missouri’s weekend was weather-delayed and then extra innings between Middle Tennessee State and Southern Illinois- Edwardsville delayed it again.
The delay had no impact on the Tigers’ performance in Friday’s doubleheader, as they went on to beat MTSU and South Alabama, courtesy of two strong games at the plate.
Beating MTSU 6-3, the top of the Tigers’ order powered the team once again.
Senior catcher Hatti Moore blasted her sixth home run of the season in the third inning, extending her team lead in home runs. This brought her RBI total on the season to 12, the second-most on the team.
Senior outfielder Brooke Wilmes also knocked her third of the season over the left field wall, giving the Tigers a 4-1 lead over the Blue Raiders. This took her RBI total for the season to 13, the season leader for the Tigers.
Senior outfielder Cayla Kessinger rounded out the home runs in the first leg of the doubleheader. The Saugus, California native hit a two-run shot over the right field wall for her fourth of the season.
While the Tigers didn’t bash the ball over the wall as much against South Alabama, they still showed up at the plate, beating the Jaguars 8-3.
Senior third baseman Kimberly Wert knocked out a two-run home run in the third inning, blasting it far over the left field wall. That home run tied the Melfa, Virginia native for eighth in all-time home runs for the Tigers.
Freshman Alex Honnold had the Tigers’ best game at the plate, going 3-3 with two RBIs and scoring one run herself.
Missouri returns to the diamond Saturday with a doubleheader against Northwestern State and Southern Illinois University- Edwardsville, and again Sunday against MTSU.
