As autumn sets in, the highly caffeinated and hilarious mother-daughter duo Lorelai and Rory Gilmore naturally take over the screens of Gilmore Girls fans once again. The return of Gilmore season is not to be taken lightly and should be filled with countless binge sessions that welcome the girls of Stars Hollow. Here is a step-by-step guide to how to binge Gilmore Girls the way Rory and Lorelai would and the episodes that go hand-in-hand.
- Track down your perfect binge session companion(s) or take on this opportunity individually.
This is a simple but crucial step to the perfect binge session. If on your own, the chatty duo will surely keep you company and engaged in their energetic Stars Hollow induced conversations. If you are accompanied by others you get the pleasure of digesting show
- Place a mass order of takeout, whip out the candy and get some coffee going.
Pay tribute to Lorelai and Rory’s eating habits and order an obscene amount of Chinese food, Indian food or good old pizza — or all three. That, or whatever type of food that will cater to a night of bliss. Pair this with an assortment of candy that is similar to the candy aisle at your local grocery store. And if you do not have a cup of hot coffee, tea or even hot chocolate for the experience, you are doing it wrong. Of course, caffeine tolerance and the time of day may hinder this, but I think if the Gilmore girls can always have a coffee in hand, so can you.
- Set the mood.
Create a setup that includes pajamas and big blankets. Whether this means setting up camp on the ground, a couch, a bed or wherever else a binge session may occur, it must scream comfort. Dress the part: put on your dorkiest pajamas and bundle up.
- Pick your lineup of episodes.
“The Road Trip to Harvard”
Season 2, Episode 4
Fall leaves and an off-the-wall bed and breakfast — who doesn’t love this episode? The Gilmore girls take a road trip to Rory’s dream school, Harvard University, and find themselves talking each other’s ears off once again, but in a quirky bed and breakfast and then the Harvard campus. This episode simply feels like a warm hug.
“They Shoot Gilmores Don’t They?”
Season 3, Episode 7
The momentous dance marathon reeks of comfort. As Rory and Lorelai dance the night away, they learn that non-stop dancing calls for relationship problems. Dean Forester and Jess Mariano butt heads over Rory once again, which makes this episode both comforting and grossly upsetting. Regardless, the autumn colors and set of this episode is notable and worth incorporating into your fall-themed binge watching session.
“Let the Games Begin”
Season 3, Episode 8
Oh Yale, Yale, Yale… thank you for giving us all of the fall vibes. Lorelai and Rory are wiped out from the pivotal dance marathon, but then dragged them to Yale by Richard Gilmore. As they tour the campus, the trees and general setting will lure fall lovers in because who doesn’t associate fall with a tour of an Ivy League?
“Kiss and Tell”
Season 1, Episode 7
“Kiss and Tell” is a Gilmore Girls classic; it is the quintessential fall episode. The Autumn Festival is in full swing. Rory and Lane Kim buy into Stars Hollow’s quirky fair and dress as pilgrims while they work the canned food drive. Rory and Dean have their first kiss in Doose’s Market, and yes — she thanks him despite how dorky and somewhat cringeworthy it may be. Lorelai also invites Dean over for a movie night with the mother-daughter duo. The pilgrim costumes truly set the mood for fall, but the episode is embedded with an undeniable fall aesthetic.
“A Deep Fried Korean Thanksgiving”
Season 3, Episode 9
Despite how much Lorelai and Rory eat on a regular day, their eating abilities are challenged by multiple Thanksgiving dinners. This holiday season makes this episode a necessity, which says enough on its own.
