The African Student Association (ASA) put on their version of the show “Love is Blind” in an attempt to find students’ love, while adding a love-themed vibe to their meeting on Feb. 10.
In preparation, the organization started planning the event as early as January. ASA president, Uzo Chukwu, started to reach out to people to see who would be interested in participating in the event. After they narrowed it down to people who were available and willing, they asked them pre-event questions. ASA then paired the contestants with those it believed had compatible answers.
ASA vice president Kebria Washington hoped people would attend the event and socialize with new people in the organization.
“I met a lot of my like, long term friends here in ASA, so like, I do want that for the future and for like, the incoming freshmen to meet and mingle, and like, be able to, like, become friends with upper classmen and things like that, just so that they can have somebody to go to for advice and just things like that,” Washington said.

The event featured three couples who were tested to determine if they were a perfect match. One of the contestants, Mercy Toma, participated in the first round of the event. She walked in not expecting to find her match, as she’s relatively picky about her potential partners. When Toma’s round came to a close, she walked out without a match.
When couples were together for their round, Chukwu would first ask the questions that she had prepared. Then, she would go back and forth and ask what each contestant thought of the other person’s answer. During the questions, the crowd would erupt with audible reactions to the answers, either positively or negatively. After Chukwu finished her questions, the audience was allowed to write questions for the couple through an Instagram link.
Once all questions were answered, the pair decided if they were interested in each other. While some groups did not continue, others said they were interested in each other and would talk afterward, beginning the possibility of love.
