Mizzou tennis continued its conference cold streak this past weekend, after both the Alabama Crimson Tide and Mississippi State Bulldogs swept the Tigers 4-0. Its Southeastern Conference record now sits at 0-7. The Tigers are on a 15-game losing streak in conference play, not securing a win since March 2025.
They travelled down to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Friday, where they started their first match against Alabama. Doubles saw sophomore Zoe Lazar and freshman Lara Quaglia play a competitive match that ultimately ended in a 6-4 loss. Sophomore Korina Roso and senior Andrea Artimedi were in the midst of a 5-5 back-and-forth bout before the match went unfinished. The third match was defaulted to Alabama.
Mizzou finished two singles matches, with Roso losing 6-4 and 6-2 and Quaglia falling 6-0 in both sets. Artimedi managed to win her first set in a tiebreaker, and sophomore Gian Octa pushed her opponent to a sixth point as well, before both matches ultimately went unfinished, giving the Crimson Tide a 4-0 victory.
The Tigers then headed to Starkville, Mississippi, for a Sunday morning face-off against Mississippi State, with another 4-0 sweep. Doubles kicked off with Roso and Artimedi falling 6-2, followed by Quaglia and Lazar’s match going unfinished with a score of 5-3. Due to freshman Alex Ackman’s injury, the third match was defaulted to the Bulldogs.
Singles followed suit with Quaglia losing the first match 6-3 and the second 6-1, followed by Roso’s 6-4 and 6-2 losses. Lazar, Artimedi and Octa’s matches all went unfinished, resulting in the second sweep of the weekend.
Mizzou finally gets a bit of a breather this week, facing off against its first non-conference opponent in over two weeks, the Illinois State Redbirds Wednesday. The last time these two teams met ended in a 4-0 Tigers victory.
