Missouri track and field pieced together a balanced and title-filled performance at the Drake Relays. Breakthrough distance wins and consistent scoring across the field events highlighted a strong weekend in Des Moines.
The Tigers opened the meet with multiple individual titles on the track. Sophomore Elijah Limo led the way in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, winning in 8:47.51 and moving to No. 5 all-time in program history.
Missouri added two more distance wins, as senior Lasse Funck captured the 1,500 meters in 3:43.97, and freshman Monica Wanjiku made an immediate impact in her debut at the distance, winning in 4:17.15 — a time that now ranks No. 3 all-time at Missouri. In the hurdles, graduate Dillon Leacock secured another title for the Tigers in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking 50.68 to rank No. 3 in program history.
Missouri also stacked podium finishes in the distance events. Junior Joshua Allison placed third in the steeplechase, junior Tyler Freiner took third in the 5,000 meters and freshman Kobi Walker added a third-place finish in the 1,500 meters.
Sophomore Joseph Bariola followed with a personal-best 14:31.87 for fourth in the 5,000 meters, while sophomore Mirriam Chepkirui and graduate Brianna Lee added top-five finishes in the 1,500 and 800 meters, respectively.
Missouri’s field group matched that consistency with several standout marks. Sophomore Marlena Tresnjo cleared a personal-best 1.83 meters in the high jump to finish third and tie the program’s No. 5 all-time mark. Senior Petra Gombas added a third-place finish in the hammer throw with a personal-best 59.15 meters, moving into eighth in school history, while junior Reagan Kimrey also entered the top 10 with a mark of 55.19 meters. In the men’s hammer, senior Garik Pozecki placed seventh at 60.98 meters, and senior Sam Innes finished fourth in the championship division with a 68.69-meter effort.
On the track, senior Robert Hines added a sprint podium with a third-place finish in the 100 meters, helping round out Missouri’s scoring across multiple event groups.
The Tigers now shift their focus to a high-profile matchup with Kansas next weekend, adding early rivalry stakes to an already strong outdoor stretch.
