1. Three arrested on drug charges in College Avenue
Three men were arrested in College Avenue residence hall Monday night after MU police found marijuana, drug paraphernalia and alcohol in the room. Residential Life staff notified the MU Police Department about a strong odor of marijuana on the first floor, MUPD spokesman Brian Weimer said.
Freshmen Cameron T. Pilz and Charles E. O’Neill, both 19, were arrested on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia. O’Neill was also charged with possession of 35 grams or less of marijuana and possession of alcohol by a minor. Daniel J. Lemly, 19, of Jefferson, Maine, was arrested on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia.
2. Two arrested after attempted dine-and-dash
At 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, staff of The Rome Restaurant at 114 S. Ninth St. called Columbia Police Department officers about a couple of customers who were unable to pay their bills. Stacey Ezzell and Neeley Ashford were both arrested on charges of stealing. Ezzell was also charged for an assault that occurred April 8. Ezzell was charged with second-degree domestic assault and second-degree property damage in addition to the stealing charge, CPD spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said.
3. Two charged with attempted shoplifting at JCPenney
At 6:03 p.m. Tuesday, CPD officers were dispatched to the JCPenney at 2301 W. Worley St. in reference to an attempted shoplifting. Loss prevention officers were holding Marissa Coleman, 20, and Hayley Cunningham, 18, in custody for attempted stealing. The women had removed several items from their packages and had attempted to leave the store without paying by concealing them in their purses, CPD spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said. Both were charged with stealing and released on signature summons.
4. CPD officers arrest three on drug charges
Officers arrested three individuals on charges of marijuana possession at 10:05 p.m. Wednesday near the 600 block of Elm Street. An officer noticed the odor of marijuana coming from a group standing near the creek area of Peace Park, and upon approaching, found they were smoking marijuana. Cassius Cole, 17, Michante Varner, 20, and Richard Anderson were all charged with possession of 35 grams or less of marijuana, and Anderson received an additional charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a police report.
5. Man arrested on charges of drunk driving
At 2:18 a.m. Thursday, an officer patrolling near the Columbia College campus observed a vehicle that appeared to be off-roading on the college’s lawn. The officer went after the car, stopping the driver at the intersection of Hickman Avenue and Eighth Street. Driver Adam Vogt, 23, was visibly intoxicated and had a suspended license, according to a police report. There was also a warrant out for his arrest after he had failed to appear in court for a previous traffic offense. Vogt resisted arrest, kicking the door of the officer’s car and causing some damage. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to appear, operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, operating a vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, first-degree property damage, resisting arrest and third-degree assault of a law enforcement officer.
