Alternative Spring Break sent nearly 500 students on philanthropic trips over spring break this year. It saw an [increase from 25 trips last year to 39 trips this year](https://www.themaneater.com/stories/2012/10/26/asb-adds-new-trips-2013/), as well as an addition of two winter break trips. It was the third largest program in the nation this year.
**2. [DM](https://www.themaneater.com/stories/2013/3/15/dance-marathon-overheads-dramatically-reduced/)**
This year’s Dance Marathon [raised over $156,000 this year, more than doubling last year’s total](https://www.themaneater.com/stories/2013/3/12/dance-marathon-raises-record-amount/). Student Morale Captains worked throughout the year in preparation for the event, and participants danced for 13.1 hours, all to benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. It was the eighteenth largest dance marathon in the nation and the biggest student philanthropy at MU.
**3. Pride Parade**
The MU LGBTQ Resource Center [hosted the second annual Pride Parade in recognition of Pride Month](https://www.themaneater.com/stories/2013/4/26/lgbtq-resource-center-holds-pride-parade/). Students, faculty and Truman the Tiger joined the parade carrying rainbow flags and signs for equality. Over 300 people joined the parade.
**4. Relay for Life**
Relay for Life fundraised [more than $77,000 for the American Cancer Society](https://www.themaneater.com/stories/2013/3/19/mizzou-relay-life-raises-77000-fight-cancer/), and it involved 789 students grouped into 63 student teams. Other student organizations, including the Muslim Student Organization, helped at the event. Additionally, MU became a Colleges Against Cancer chapter this year.
**5. RAMS**
After 20 years, this year’s Rockin’ Against Multiple Sclerosis events were able to [push the organization past its $1 million milestone](https://www.themaneater.com/stories/2013/3/1/rams-reaches-1-million-mark/). The philanthropy benefits the Multiple Sclerosis Institute, and this year’s donation totaled $65,000. The tri-directors stressed that raising community awareness was more important than the money.
