Chocolates and Courtship
Sometimes,
we think of love as simple as
sweets and treats
Story continues below advertisement
Gaining affection because
we fit like puzzles
Our personalities arrange
in just the right way
together
Wishing of reeling, of feeling, of caving
in for this person,
Tasting chocolate-covered strawberries
some of them mushy and soft,
Dreaming of chalky conversation hearts
slightly fragmented in the packaging,
Sweet-tooth aches,
valentines overflown and
glitter fallen from our cards
We ache for courtship, for this romance
of fantasy books
and coming-of-age movies,
Of fuzzy feelings
and happy ever afters
Love is complex
like a box of chocolates
