Candidates and volunteers from both slates handed out freebies and spoke with students on Wednesday afternoon
Candidates and volunteers from both Revive the Roar and All in 4 Mizzou tabled in Speakers Circle on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 hoping to reach more students in the race to become Missouri Students Association president and vice president. Students who visited the tables were offered snacks and freebies as an incentive to vote and learn more about the candidates’ values. All undergraduate students are able to cast their vote on vote.missouri.edu between March 5 at noon and March 7 at 11:59 p.m.
Revive the Roar marketing manager Ramayia Smith hands a skincare package from Good Molecules to a voter on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at Speakers Circle in Columbia, Mo. “I decided to volunteer because I am personal friends of Kayla and Olivia,” Smith said. “I know the change that they are trying to make in the business school and also in Mizzou as a whole […] It’s not always easy, especially coming into a PWI as a Black person or any minority in general and not [having] accurate representation […] They have good hearts and I know their intentions are pure.” All in 4 Mizzou presidential candidate Clay Van Eaton hands a flier to junior Ahmed Mohammed. “[Tabling] is a great opportunity to get out there and really show the student body that we’re there for them,” Van Eaton said. “Just showing our face and being present is just already half the battle.” Revive the Roar presidential candidate Kayla Modacure (left) and marketing manager Ramayia Smith (right) speak to a voter while tabling in Speakers Circle. “I think this is the best way to really engage students,” Modacure said. “Last election only like 2,000 people voted, so we really need to get out there and show […] what MSA is and that there is an election going on.” A basket of All in 4 Mizzou campaign buttons, stickers and fliers rest on the slate’s table in Speakers Circle. The slate also offered free slices of pizza and Dum-Dums to students passing by. Freshmen Lily Simpson and Daniel Feiste take out their phones while visiting Revive the Roar’s table in Speakers Circle. QR codes linking to the voting website were posted on the table for students to scan and free skincare packages from Good Molecules were offered to those who had voted in the election. Revive the Roar candidates Kayla Modacure (left) and Olivia Prudhomme (right) speak to freshman Icsah Maginn while tabling in Speakers Circle. “I’ve been seeing stuff about it online, so I just kind of wanted to see what both of their things were about,” Maginn said. “There’s free stuff, so that kind of helps too.” Sophomore Julia Gerard selects a cherry lollipop from a basket held by All in 4 Mizzou volunteer and junior Nate Thomas. “I’m having a great time out here spreading the word for [All in 4 Mizzou’s] campaign because I believe it’s for a good cause,” Thomas said.
