A Columbia woman was arrested at 1:45 p.m. Monday for her involvement in a fatal car crash.
Desmeisha Thomas, 19, was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine when she lost control of her 2000 Nissan Pathfinder, leaving two dead and two injured.
Emergency personnel were called to the scene at the 2500 block of Blue Ridge Road at about 2:17 a.m on Sept. 5, according to a news release.
Thomas veered off the right side of the road, striking a curb and then a telephone pole on the passenger side. Thomas was unable to gain control of the vehicle, which overturned and slid on its top for 75 feet.
“There was alcohol and speed related to the crash,” Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said.
Thomas showed signs of intoxication at the scene.
Medical personnel pronounced one of the passengers, David McBride, 26, dead at the scene. The two other passengers, James Miller, 18, and Lateshia Jordan, 18, were transported to the hospital for injuries. Jordan was taken into surgery at University Hospital, where she died Sept. 5 due to injuries sustained in the crash.
Detectives were later able to establish probable cause and arrested Miller for second-degree murder due to his involvement in a prior shooting, according to a news release.
Blood samples from Thomas were tested at the St. Louis University Toxicology Lab. They came back with a blood alcohol content of .076 and tested positive for cocaine, according to a news release.
Thomas was arrested for driving while intoxicated with a $500 bond and involuntary manslaughter with bond to be set.
