An unidentified 19-year-old man was brought Thursday night to the University Hospital Emergency Room in Columbia for an unexplainable gunshot wound.
At 9:55 p.m. Friday, Columbia police officers were called to 1 Hospital Drive in response to a report of a victim sustaining a gunshot wound. An unidentified individual driving a private vehicle dropped off the victim at the emergency room without contacting police or emergency services, according to a police department news release.
The victim had no knowledge as to the identity of the person who brought him to the hospital.
When examined, the victim appeared to have received the wound in his right hip and did not know how he had received the injury.
Despite being uncooperative with the officers, the victim was able to disclose he had been shot at an unknown location while walking on Ash Street. No reports of gunshots in the area were reported to the police during the estimated time frame.
The police department has yet to receive any additional information regarding the case, CPD spokeswoman Latisha Stroer said. No suspects have been identified, and an ongoing investigation is taking place.
