Missouri women’s golf took in 15th place at the Jim West Challenge, which took place in San Marcos, Texas earlier this week.

The Tigers entered the tournament coming off of their first win of the season at the Johnie Imes Invitational. They were not able to repeat the success they saw at that tournament in early October.

The competition was stiff for Missouri. They competed against eight teams that are ranked in the top 60 collegiate women’s golf teams according to the Golf Stat Rankings. No. 15 Ole Miss won the tournament by shooting 836 to finish 28-under par.

The Tigers started the tournament with their lowest team score of the season, shooting 285. They came back in the afternoon to shoot a team score of 299.

“I was pleased to see how we played in the morning,” coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. “Today was a shootout, the course was set up to go low in the morning, and the weather cooperated. In the afternoon, the winds picked up and made it more difficult and we just didn’t strike the ball as well overall. This was the first time we’ve played 36 holes in a day this season, and I think we did get a little fatigued down the stretch in the afternoon and that led to missing some shots that we normally are solid with.”.

Missouri went into round three in 15th place and shot a 298 to maintain that ranking. The team earned a three-round score of 882.

Individually, junior Noelle Beijer had the best score for the Tigers. Beijer started out the season with the lowest 18-hole score for the team so far this season. She shot 4-under for a score of 68. In the first round, she carded four birdies and an eagle. She scored a 73 and 72 in the second and third round respectively. Beijer’s tournament score of 213 earned her a tie for No. 22. She has finished in the top-25 of every tournament this season.

Freshman Sophia Yoemans carded the second-best tournament score for the Tigers. She opened the tournament by shooting 1-under for a 71 and followed that round with an even 72 in the afternoon. Yoemans ended the tournament with a 76 in the final round and a tournament score of 219. She finished tied for No. 43.

Freshman Bri Bolden also opened the tournament with a score of 71. She shot four birdies in the first round. Bolden finished the tournament tied for No. 56 with a three-round score of 224.

Senior Cherise Otter shot 3-over for a score of 75 in her opening and closing rounds of the tournament. She finished tied for No. 66 individually after shooting a tournament score of 227.

Rounding out the Tigers lineup was redshirt sophomore Julia Bower. Bower carded a 230 for the tournament and finished in a tie for No. 72 individually.

Missouri women’s golf will finish up their fall season at the Battle at the Beach in Cabo, Mexico from Nov. 1 to 3.
