Kate Phillips’ three saves wasn’t enough to keep Missouri in the game
On Oct. 27, Missouri soccer faced off against LSU in a match filled with 18 shot opportunities by the home team. Missouri fell short in a 1-0 loss.
The game kicked off with high energy, as Brianna Buels had an opportunity early on at the 6-yard line, but her shot soared over the goal. Just moments later in the 35th minute, LSU came close to scoring when a powerful strike hit the crossbar. The ball landed just millimeters away from the goal line but did not cross.
Keegan Good had a chance to put Missouri ahead in the 39th minute with a well-placed header, but it narrowly sailed over the crossbar. The pressure continued to mount, as Missouri forced a notable save from LSU goalkeeper Sophine Kevorkian, who denied Buels’ one-on-one in the 57th minute.
As the second half unfolded, the tension escalated. In the 59th minute, Landis Canada found herself open to shoot, but it hit the post, keeping the game tied at zero. Jessica Larson attempted a long shot in the 61st minute from outside the box, but it veered just wide of the target.

The breakthrough finally came in the 68th minute when LSU’s Ida Hermannsdottir took advantage of a defensive breakdown by Missouri, firing the ball into the top left corner of the net. This goal shifted the momentum, and the home team was left scrambling to equalize.
Despite relentless efforts including a powerful strike from Larson in the 74th minute that barely cleared the crossbar, Missouri couldn’t find the back of the net. As the match drew to a close, Larson had another shot blocked, and Good’s attempt went off target, sealing the fate of the game.

The 1-0 result was marked by eight missed corner kick opportunities and only five shots on goal for the home team.
However, if Florida had beaten Tennessee on Wednesday, Oct. 30, Missouri would have qualified for the SEC Tournament.
